It’s All So Confusing – But Is THCA Actually Weed?
(This has been updated from the original post of August 8, 2024)
It depends on how you want to interpret it. THCA is a compound. It is not marijuana and it is not hemp, but it comes from the cannabis species of plant. Here’s how to get through the confusion that many people have. To begin, THCA is Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. Or, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – the nonsense word we’ve all heard in the Disney classic, Mary Poppins. Oooooo. To the layman, THCa – or THCa flower – when smoked or vaporized, turns into THC, which gives you a euphoric feeling or “makes you high.” It is the mother of hemp cannabinoids if you light it up.
Final Verdict on Is THCA weed?
If you consume THCA, it has a good reputation for tackling the signs and feelings of nausea and pain and may have potential medical benefits. As many things are with this magical plant, the jury is still out. There are studies indicating and alluding to some incredibly beneficial health benefits but until risks associated with use of THCA are fully understood it’s best to proceed (at least down the inhalation route) with some caution. And our team as always on the lookout for any updates in published medical research. A few studies have explored THCA from a medical stance, but more research is needed to fully understand its effects on the body. But without a doubt, THCA is a promising area of study for future medical treatments.
